I Just Know There’s a Hot Chick Around Here Somewhere…

Okay, so we all know about those little “footprints” which allow xanga users to see who is visiting their page whether they leave a comment or not?  Sure, we all know about them–in fact, I was probably one of the last to know, but since I discovered it, it has been a source of great amusement.  Little had I known, my xanga page was entertaining visitors from Texas, Virginia, Kentucky–but no Hoosiers yet, I’m afraid–and even international interest, getting hits from Canada, Germany (is that you, Pascale?), and China, which I assume to be from my friends, the Sneads.  The latest curious addition to this list was but twenty minutes ago, when this page was discovered by someone from Taiwan!

Now, the really fun thing is that the “footprints” allow you to see what referred this person to you, how they found you, whether it be through a blogring or through a common friend’s xangapage.  Struck by the Taiwanese visitor, I wondered what on earth sent this person in my direction.  Was it a mutual friend?  An interest in poetry?  A long-lost acquaintance seeking me out by name?  Well, the referring link was right there, so I clicked it.

It took me to a Google search page in Chinese.  The person had apparently googled the term “Herculicious.”  Remember when I watched the Mystery Science Theater of Hercules Unchained and quoted some memorable lines?  Yep.  Google ratted me out.

::Edit::  Good heavens, it seems no-one else knows about it!  Do I share with you all the secret of what is apparently my special power?  Eh, I’m a generous fellow (grin).  If on your xanga page you click on “Feedback Log” (under “Your Subscriptions,” in the left sidebar for most of us), a page will come up showing you comments and eprops received, etc.  One link here is labeled “Footprints”–click on that and you will see everyone who visits your page.  Some only give locations, but if it was another xanga member, it will produce their name and the time they stopped by for a little peek at your page…

I choose to think of this not as creepy but simply fun.  Mattyaction, this is probably how those fellow knew you had stopped by their pages, come to think of it.  Anyway, enjoy!

heh, no i think you have all the great ones down. but i heard this awesome singer the other day – diana kroll – i never listened to her because she seems to only appeal to old, rich people so i assumed i wouldn’t like it. but i do! you might like it also, if you haven’t heard any of her things yet. another great voice is eva cassidy – buy “live from blues alley” and thank me later. jamie cullum is good too (these are the days album) … ok, i’ll stop now, haha.

Most of mine are just locations–Georgia and California (and one Indian).  I wonder why California pops up so much?  This is fun though–thanks for sharing!

  13. I think that is really cool, I now can find out who my real friends are. : )
j/k, but really…thanks for enlightening what appears to be most of the known xanga community at large, I guess we just had no idea.
however, knowledge is a dangerous tool sometimes…I feel all aware of myself suddenly.

Thank you for the enlightenment, but, I’m confused!  I got onto the Footprints thing, and saw visitors to my site for the past four days–which was interesting because I rarely post anything.  It’s fairly early in the morning, and there were none for today.  Only two of them showed which xanga site they found me on, but all of them said either United States or listed a particular state in the United States.
THEN I noticed that I had been visited this morning from CALIFORNIA, in the brief few minutes that I had been checking the “Footprints!”  The thing was…it was MYSELF.  In the course of checking out the “Footprints,” I had clicked onto my site at those exact times.  I can assure you, I am not in California right now.  Do you know what is up with that?
As for you, Mr. Great Knock, I have recently placed some stronger internet filters on our family computer for the protection of the kids.  Since then, when I try to access your site from the email updates I get from you, the filters won’t let me!  The “rule” it cites for not allowing me to do so, is “Sex Education/Advanced.”  Even with all of your deep theological musings, the filters picked up on a few comments you made about what you teach. Interesting. 🙂  Well, at least I know the security is doing its job. 🙂 For whatever reason, though, when I came straight throught the xanga website, it allowed me to get here.  I guess there are still a few bugs in it…. 🙂
    Have a wonderful day!

  22. ummm, I sensed just the slightest bit of sarcasm in your comment mr. ritterbush. I’ll have you know that it was a serious documentary and that I do not waste my time on trite movies like blue crush (loved it) point break (yeah, loved it too) and whatever the other one was that you mockingly posted on my site.
    bah. away with you.
